Love this sentiment! I just got Fruit Fight in specifically to introduce some friends into the hobby. It's important to have a varied collection.

Simplier games are easy to get on to the table and have everyone playing.

I don't see myself pulling out brass birmingham on xmas day plus teaching the game. I think it's gonna ruin everyone's night

I just attended my first gaming convention, SaltCon. While I loved it, my impression after being taught 3 or 4 new games is that a lot of these games are just too complicated for almost the sake of trying to be complicated. They took too long to learn and too long to play. I am with you on having some games that allow friends who aren’t serious gamers be part of the play.

Thanks for the article. I really love to play some easy to get into games with friends who haven't played anything complex. My favorite game is Wizard. A simple trick taking game where you have to call the amounts of tricks you will make. One can learn it very quickly but there is also some skill evolved and it holds up for a couple of sessions.

Great read. I definitely agree that knowing the designer helps get deeper into it. I know I discovered many games like that. How did they not put the original designers names on there? Did I miss something?

The designers names are in the rulebooks, but they're not present anywhere on the box, save for the Reiner Knizia game. I'm not sure exactly why they made that decision.
