I had a blast with Hot Streak recently, but then followed it up with Thunder Road (including a number of its expansions) and it was downright chaos and a fantastic time!
I heard a bit of very interesting and insightful info from Jamie Stegmaier. Someone asked him about expansions for Finspan and the answer was ""sure, if enough copies of the base game sell"". It's a good reminder that for publishers it's probably a financial decision 1st.
Besides that, I'm curious if you have any games that you would not play without adding an expansion. For me there's Tokaido, which has too few choices to make without the extensions.
Oh, an interesting thought! An easy answer is Carcassonne's The River — but given it comes packaged with a number of editions of the base game, it sort of occupies a space between an expansion and a setup variant.

I still need to play Thunder Road!
Unrelatedly, played Mountains of Madness last night and enjoyed the chaos of that as well! (I guess ‘chaos’ is my new favorite genre!)
nice read, thank you!
